Soaring Report – Sunday, September 22, 2024

Hi All,

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday we were wearing shorts and t-shirts, and today long pants and a light jacket were needed to be comfortable. We can feel that fall weather is moving in. There are a lot of local farmers harvesting their beans, and corn harvesting won’t be too far behind that.

There were eleven total flights today:

– Jose C flew a two flight lessons with Steve R and one with Eric H.
– Ryan K flew two Check Ride practice flights with Steve.
– Jeff F flew two Check Ride practice flights with Steve.
– Beth C flew a flight lesson with Eric. Beth was scheduled to work and was supposed to leave by 2pm – it was about 2:40pm when she sprinted off to her car – hope she got to work on time!
– Tom took two of his relatives for rides.
– Steve and Eric flew a flight to maintain Steve’s CAP currency.

Since June 7th, we’ve flown on 32 days with just over 390 flights towed. If the weather and interest hold, we’ll probably complete approximately 500 flights for the season. That may depend on what the FAA decides about requiring a new inspection on tow-planes like ours. The Piper Pawnee’s have been flying for more than 50 years. They’ve been the go-to tow-planes for soaring clubs around the world. This inspection may be quite expensive to perform. If issues are found, the repair costs will be onerous. Aviation is an expensive hobby!

Frank did the towing today.

Thanks all.
