Three members of OSCI attended the Blair Airport Authority BOD meeting on Tuesday, January 16th. Club President Bud S. and lead flight instructor Steve R. spoke on behalf of OSCI. Club Treasurer Jeff F. provided moral support from the gallery. Bud and Steve reviewed the 2023 club flight statistics, accomplishments, activities, and future plans. They also asked for more information about the airport’s expansion plans and the timeline for those plans. The Airport Authority said they felt that changes which might have some impact on our operations are five to ten years out. This information will be taken into account before we decide how much of our club money should be invested in restoring the storage room behind the Pawnee’s hangar. Bud, Steve, and Jeff agreed that the presentation to the Airport Authority BOD was well received.
The first of four planned Ground School sessions was held on Saturday, January 20th at the Sump Memorial Library in Papillion. The temperature that morning was around -20F outside, yet there were seventeen attendees at this class; that’s pretty good attendance considering how cold it was. Attendees were either eager to learn or eager to get out of the house! This class was led by Steve R., who reviewed the pages to be flagged and the paragraphs that should be highlighted in the FAR/AIM manual. The reason for doing this is that during an oral flight exam by a DPE, an answer can quickly be found if you aren’t certain of the answer to a question. Many of the marked sections contain information that is used for questions on the written and/or oral exams. The next class is scheduled for February 17th and will again be held at the Sump Memorial Library, from 9AM until noon.
